Early Morning in Monchique

In my opinion, my home town of Monchique is one of the prettiest in the Algarve with its colourful houses and winding narrow streets. The early morning light working its way around the buildings inspired me to create this piece. I love the way the light bounces and reflects off the shiny metal of the cars.

I decided to paint it on a black ground as I wanted to focus the eye on the play of light and ‘forget’ any peripheral details, such as the Calçada street, as almost immaterial.
