Painting outdoors is totally different from painting in a studio from photographic reference. The camera just doesn’t pick up the nuances in the shadows or the wild variety of colours of the natural world. So wherever I get the chance, I opt for painting outdoors on location. This scene was painted in late autumn along the cliff walk looking back towards the little church that sits above the beach in Alporchinhos.
