Four Geishas Small Print
A few years ago I was lucky enough to go on a tour of Japan, which made a huge impression on me as an artist. The colours and clarity of the open spaces, the precision and style of the architecture and also the friendliness and humility of the people This painting depicts four girls intently studying a local shrine in Kyoto. I loved the mash of colours and patterns on the girls elaborate costumes. We all use costume to portray an image to the world so it was particularly interesting to see how the flamboyant geisha dresses affected the confidence of this group of girls. This one sold before the paint was fully dry.
