Cafe Vila

I live in the beautiful hillside town of Monchique and this painting was done of the cafe that occupies the main square. I loved the light that glows through the trees and the brightly coloured umbrellas.

I quite often coat my canvases with black acrylic paint before beginning a painting as I love the way the bright colours pop out of its density. I tend to leave the edges unfinished, representative of memories that are vivid but not quite complete as the periphery vision is either vague or totally forgotten.
