Seven Geishas
A few years ago I was lucky enough to go on a tour of Japan, which made a huge impression on me as an artist. The colours and clarity of the open spaces, the precision and style of the architecture and also the friendliness and humility of the people.
On a visit to Kyoto we saw this group of girls dressed in traditional Kimonos. I am fascinated by body language as so much can be told of a persons personality by the way they hold themselves - more so I think than facial expressions, which these days can be schooled to hide ones thoughts.
We all use costume to portray an image to the world so it was particularly interesting to see how the flamboyant geisha dresses effected the confidence of this group of girls.
The ‘seventh’ geishas can just be seen behind.
